Interview With Jill B.
Empowered Women at Fabick Cat
What brought you to this organization – in essence, why Fabick Cat?
I wanted to work for an organization that makes a difference.
What are you most proud of?
The work we do at Fabick Cat helps build our community and our world. There’s nothing better than seeing our equipment building a road or digging the foundation for a new home. It’s the pride in the Cat equipment and being the industry leader. But, more than that, it’s the pride in the people that make us Fabick Cat. Seeing a Fabick Cat logo on a piece of yellow iron, especially when it’s a very old piece of equipment, makes me proud to be a part of the team.
What professional advice would you give to your younger self ?
Whatever you decide to do, love what you do and take pride in your work. Learn as much as possible so you can be confident in your ideas and actions. Be open to change and new challenges. Be willing to teach others. Speak up when you have something to add, disagree when you must. Find someone you respect to collaborate with and make sure they will always tell you the truth when you are wrong.
What does being a leader at Fabick Cat mean to you?
Being a leader isn’t just about leading your team. Hiring the best, training them well, empowering and offering support when they need it; are foundational skills for a good manager. But, being a leader means stepping outside of my comfort zone to see the bigger organization as a whole. It’s there that we identify opportunities for organizational collaboration; bringing people together to create efficiencies and enhance our organization.
What characteristics or attributes do you feel helped you succeed at Fabick Cat? What development opportunities were provided to you, if any?
Being ready for any new challenge and not letting the unknown be a barrier to success.
What impact do women have in our organization?
Every organization needs individual perspectives to help drive growth. Our leaders understand in order to reach our goals, encouraging differences and supporting new, unique ideas is critical to our success.
What advice do you have for other women considering Fabick Cat as a future employer?
Fabick Cat is a family-owned company that values their employees and customers above all. We want to be the best, so we hire the best. Our work can be complex, it can be dirty, it can even sometimes be considered impossible. You will be challenged everyday and sometimes, it’s not easy. But, when has being the best ever been easy?
